Museum of Digital Art and Innovation

The Museum of Digital Art and Innovation of Florianópolis claims a contemporary place in architecture, grounded in the recognition of history and of local knowledge—artistic, technical, poetic, and symbolic.

Inspired by the figure of the sambaqui—a pre-Columbian topographic construction typical of the coast of Santa Catarina—two “stacked” volumes are symbolically supported: respectively, the volume of “knowledge” and the volume of “technology,” both dedicated to exhibition spaces. In this way, three distinct materialities define the museum’s floors. Vertical circulation and the ramp that provides access to the rooftop connect the different moments of the exhibition route. Thus, we materialize an architecture of stacking—non-sealed, permeable, and open.
