Pantanal Aquarium

Pantanal Aquarium

Campo Grande – MS – Brasil
2022
26.000 m²

The Pantanal fascinates.
The Aquarium’s architecture astonishes.

In the Pantanal, water and vegetation intertwine, forming a unique and compelling ecosystem. In the Aquarium, the design sought this same synthesis: fish displayed in thirty-two tanks arranged along an elliptical building—covered along its perimeter and open at the center, exposed to the sky—for caimans, otters, and giant river otters. The Central Pavilion, an elongated form with a red steel structure at its core and zinc panels at both ends, establishes a striking presence in the city’s landscape. Its originality and aesthetic strength give Mato Grosso do Sul a significant reference at the national and even international level, much like the Pantanal itself—one of the most beautiful and exuberant regions of Brazil.

A mosaic of knowledge and the aesthetics of learning.

The complex will offer visitors—both tourists and residents of Mato Grosso do Sul—not only the opportunity to admire the fish and their swift movement in the tanks, but also to observe life in the lagoons of caimans and otters. The thematic library, in print and digital formats, may serve as a center for lectures and seminars related to the Pantanal. The museum will present the trajectory of human life and experience in the region. Laboratories will encourage research, including studies on its rich biodiversity, through joint work with the local university. The main lobby of the Central Pavilion includes two spaces for visual arts and photography exhibitions, whenever possible focused on the Pantanal theme. A 240-seat auditorium will host a wide range of events. Tourism—the greatest beneficiary of this mosaic—will stimulate the emergence of new hotels, restaurants, shops, and tourism operators, contributing to commercial activity.

In summary, these are the elements that come together in the Pantanal Aquarium as a facility dedicated to recognizing the importance of life and culture in Mato Grosso do Sul.

Thus, with enthusiasm and optimism, we foresee the completion of the Pantanal Aquarium, benefiting the population through a contemporary perspective and a forward-looking vision.
